How many miles should a belt do ?
I ride on country lanes - lots of accelerating and decelerating. Loads of bends. Lots of gearchanges. But I rarely accelerate on full throttle. But I don't hang about. It's very rare that I cruise at a steady speed.
I also ride in all weathers. And it rains most of the time here in England. With temperatures down to freezing in winter.
My 1993 savage had done only 4000 miles when I got it last summer. I've done another 5000 mile and now the belt is showing visible signs of wear. The teeth are starting to round on their leading edge.
The belt is now 10 years old. Do belts harden with age causing them to wear quicker?
The belt is always tensioned exactly are recommended by Suzuki using their service tool (except for a few hundred miles when I tried it slacker after reading the postings here. I must say it seens a really bad idea to ignore the recommendations of Suzuki when it comes to belt tension).
The rear wheel is also correctly aligned.
I was expecting 40,000 miles from the belt, but the way it's going, it'll be worn out in 15,000 miles.
Thankyou for your help.
Happy Savage riding.
